Donald Trump stated that he had spoken with Russian President Vladimir Putin about beginning negotiations “immediately,” to end the conflict in Ukraine. He said he would call Ukraine’s President to inform him of this conversation. Trump’s decision to speak with Russia first before Ukraine represents a change in policy from the Biden administration, which stressed “nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine.”
“We also agreed that our respective teams would start negotiations immediately. We will first call President Zelenskyy of Ukraine to inform him about the conversation. I will do this right now,” Trump wrote in a social media post.
Trump stated that the two leaders had agreed to the urgent need to stop the killings in Ukraine.
He said that Secretary of State Marco Rubio would lead the negotiations with Russia, along with CIA Director John Ratcliffe and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz. Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff will also be involved.

Three years ago, Moscow invaded Ukraine. As a response, the U.S. as well as its NATO allies sent billions in military aid to Kyiv.
Trump and Putin have agreed to work together closely and visit their respective nations.
“I had a long and very productive phone conversation with Vladimir Putin, President of Russia.” He said they discussed Ukraine, the Middle East, Energy, and Artificial Intelligence. They also talked about the Dollar.
Trump, who repeatedly stated that he wanted to end Ukraine’s war quickly, after hundreds and thousands of deaths, said Sunday that he believed he was progressing toward this goal, although he had not yet specified how he intended to do so.
