The left will do whatever it takes to prevent Pete Hegseth from becoming Donald Trump’s Secretary of Defense. They don’t care if that means publicly humiliating themselves.

ProPublica, a left-wing publication that poses as an “independent, non-profit” newsroom, tried to create a narrative on Wednesday but failed miserably. It claimed Hegseth lied when he said he had applied to West Point and was accepted.

This is a quick recap: A ProPublica employee, perhaps editor Jesse Eisinger heard an interview where Hegseth claimed to have been accepted into the U.S. Military Academy. They decided to call West Point and confirm. West Point Public Affairs Office responded incorrectly that Hegseth neither applied nor was accepted. They said: “According to the admissions offices – Hegseth did not apply for admission to the U.S. Military Academy.”

It’s not surprising that a West Point staff member decided to take Hegseth down with a story Hegseth couldn’t refute.

Eisinger and ProPublica thought they were in for a “gotcha moment” and asked Hegseth’s lawyer to comment. Hegseth eventually provided an image from his 1999 acceptance letter, which prompted West Point to apologize.

ProPublica was forced to abandon their hit piece and the story should have ended there. Eisinger, however, took to X to congratulate himself for his efforts to tarnish Pete Hegseth’s reputation. He thought he would be praised for what he called “real journalism,” and instead found that he had been heaped with scorn for not following the real story: West Point was caught in a falsehood.

But, wait, there’s more. Thursday, more information was revealed about the “real journalism” that the ProPublica cosplayers were practicing.

Eisinger claimed that ProPublica reached out to Hegseth’s team, giving them “a fair opportunity to respond to all the salient facts of the story.” The truth is a little different. They only gave one hour’s notice before threatening public disclosure.

I’m writing to you with an urgent comment request for your client Pete Hegseth. Please let me know as soon as you can if either you or your client would like to comment. The email states, “Our deadline is one hour away.”

Elliott explains to ProPublica that Hegseth was never admitted by West Point. He claims, based on West Point’s statement, that Hegseth lied.

Elliott asked, “Why did Hegseth claim he was admitted to West Point but that’s not true?” He continued, “How can Mr. Hegseth hold the position of Secretary of Defense if he’s made false claims about being accepted into West Point? “Is there something else we should know?”

We’ve got two liars in our hands: ProPublica/Jesse Eisinger, and West Point. ProPublica was fully intending to run with this lie, probably with visions about Pulitzers dancing through their minds; giving someone a single hour to respond, a candidate for one of the highest-ranking jobs in the country, is not “real journalism.” It would surprise you to know that George Soros donated a substantial amount of money to the rag.

Journalism has suffered a long and tortuous death, thanks to dishonest brokers such as ProPublic. They failed spectacularly in their attempt to bring Pete Hegseth down, which will hopefully hasten the end of this self-inflicted death.
