A man has been arrested in Brooklyn, New York, following an alleged attempt to abduct a 6-year-old boy from a crowded Coney Island sidewalk during the Fourth of July weekend. The New York Police Department reports that the incident occurred in the presence of the child’s parents.

According to the boy’s father, Roy Gantt, the situation unfolded this way: “When I turned around, I noticed a man pick him up and run by way of the boardwalk. Once he saw us chasing him, he threw [Rah’Shem] down. It sounded like he hit his head on the concrete.”

The NYPD has identified the suspect as Jonathan Robalino, 36, who they describe as “emotionally disturbed.” Robalino has been charged with assault and attempted kidnapping. The child, identified as Rah’Shem, was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and subsequently released, with reports indicating no serious injuries.

Mr. Gantt stated that he and the child’s mother physically restrained the suspect for approximately four minutes until law enforcement arrived on the scene. This raises important questions about public safety and parental vigilance in crowded tourist areas.
