A seven-day undercover operation in Polk County, Florida, has resulted in the arrest of 281 suspects on charges related to human trafficking and child sexual exploitation, with seventeen of those arrested employed by Disney World and Universal Studios theme parks.
Sheriff Grady Judd announced the results of the joint law enforcement operation during a press conference Friday, describing the scope and disturbing nature of the crimes investigated. The operation specifically targeted individuals who prey upon children and those who travel with intent to engage in unlawful sexual activity with minors.
Among the 281 suspects arrested, thirteen were employed by Disney and four by Universal Studios. Sheriff Judd confirmed that thirty-one suspects had traveled to Polk County specifically to meet what they believed were children for sexual purposes.
The arrests revealed troubling patterns regarding the backgrounds of those apprehended. Thirty-two suspects were identified as undocumented immigrants, with sixteen already transferred to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Twenty-four suspects brought firearms to their meetings with undercover officers, and nine were on probation at the time of their arrests.
Several cases stand out for their particularly disturbing nature. One suspect serves as head coach of the Davenport Titans, a youth sports organization serving children between eleven and fourteen years of age. He believed he was traveling to meet a fourteen-year-old girl. Another suspect serves on active duty with the United States Navy.
A former Disney employee who had portrayed Mickey Mouse at the theme parks was arrested with two backpacks filled with diapers, which investigators determined related to his particular criminal predilections. Another current Disney employee was arrested with his work uniform in his vehicle while attempting to meet someone he believed was a thirteen-year-old boy, who was in fact an undercover detective.
Sheriff Judd emphasized the necessity of such operations in his statement to the press. “It is extremely disturbing when we encounter nasty child predators like these who are very eager to have sex with children. This is why we conduct these types of undercover operations,” he said.
The Walt Disney Company cooperated fully with law enforcement throughout the investigation. During the press conference, Sheriff Judd confirmed that Disney has terminated all employees arrested during the operation. Neither Disney nor Universal Studios has issued additional public statements beyond confirming their cooperation with authorities.
This operation represents one of the larger coordinated efforts targeting human trafficking and crimes against children in recent Florida history. The arrests underscore an ongoing concern among law enforcement officials regarding the prevalence of individuals who seek to exploit children through digital communications and travel.
The investigation continues as authorities process evidence and pursue additional leads developed during the seven-day operation.
