Buckingham Palace reported that King Charles III spent a brief time in hospital on Thursday as he continues to receive cancer treatment.

Charles was hospitalized due to “temporary” side effects he suffered after receiving what the palace called “scheduled medical treatment” for cancer on Thursday morning.

According to the palace, after a “short observation period” in hospital, the 76-year-old king returned home to Clarence House in London, his royal residence.

Charles’ engagements for Thursday afternoon and Friday have been postponed due to his hospitalization.

In a Thursday evening statement, the palace apologized to anyone who might have been disappointed or inconvenienced.

Buckingham Palace announced Charles’s cancer diagnosis in February 2024 shortly after he had undergone treatment for benign prostatic enlargement.

The palace did not mention the stage or type of treatment that Charles is currently undergoing, or plans to undergo, when it announced his diagnosis.

Charles, after spending several weeks mostly out of the spotlight, visited a cancer treatment center in April 2024. This was his first royal engagement since being diagnosed with cancer.

Charles has since resumed his public duties more consistently.

He attended a Buckingham Palace reception that evening after attending an exhibition in London’s Somerset House.
