A senseless act of violence has claimed the life of an innocent man who was simply doing his job in the early morning hours at a Nashville warehouse store.
Paris Carlock, 55, of Murfreesboro, died after a stray bullet penetrated the exterior wall of a Sam’s Club on Antioch Pike and struck him in the head as he conducted product inventory in the chip aisle. The shooting occurred shortly after 4 a.m., when Carlock was counting products as part of his duties as a Frito-Lay employee.
According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, the fatal shot originated from gunfire connected to an argument at the Lavo Lounge, located down the street from the warehouse store. The dispute began inside the establishment, where security personnel removed those involved. However, the confrontation continued outside in the parking area.
Police report that multiple vehicles departed the scene as gunshots rang out. One of those bullets traveled far enough to pierce the metal exterior wall of the Sam’s Club, striking Carlock as he worked inside the store. The distance the bullet traveled and its ability to penetrate the building’s exterior wall underscore the reckless nature of the gunfire.
Store employees immediately rushed to assist Carlock before emergency responders transported him to a local hospital. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department has characterized Carlock as an “innocent” victim, a man who bore no connection to the dispute that cost him his life. Homicide Unit detectives are actively pursuing leads in the case, though no arrests have been announced, and authorities have not released descriptions of the individuals or vehicles involved in the altercation.
