ABC News reported that a Maryland resident was deported to El Salvador by the United States as a result of ‘administrative error’ which overlooked his protected legal status in the U.S. In a court document, a representative from Immigration and Customs Enforcement confirmed that the Maryland resident was deported to El Salvador as a result of an “administrative error” that ignored his protected legal status in the U.S.
ABC reported that Kilmer Armado Abrego-Garcia had been last seen at the notorious CECOT prison in El Salvador. Abrego Garcia’s attorneys are trying to obtain an order allowing him to return to the U.S.

Newsweek reported that the man, who was 16 at the time, traveled to the U.S. in 2011 due to gang threats. He applied for protection in the U.S. and was granted it. Newsweek reports that his lawyers believe the gang membership link was made after an informant said he was a member of a gang. Abrego Garcia was arrested by ICE early in March and flown to El Salvador the following day.
Vice President JD Vance posted about the case, indicating Abrego-Garcia had no legal right to be in the U.S. “My further comment is that it’s gross to get fired up about gang members getting deported while ignoring citizens they victimize.”
