Hollywood Actress Faces Backlash After Remarks About Son's Sexual Orientation

Actress Camryn Manheim drew considerable attention this week following remarks she made at the 2026 Human Rights Campaign National Dinner, where she expressed disappointment that her son did not turn out to be homosexual.

The Emmy Award-winning actress, known for her role on “Law & Order,” made the comments Sunday evening while presenting the Ally for Equality award to fellow actress Marcia Gay Harden. During her speech, Manheim stated that she had always wanted a gay son, citing her admiration for the relationship between gay sons and their mothers.

“I want to be the picket sign holding mom who would beat the sh*t out of somebody for her kid,” Manheim told the assembled dinner guests. She went on to describe her son’s involvement in musical theater and his childhood behavior, which she had interpreted as indicators of homosexuality. “I have photographs of my son in high heels, in full drag. He knows every word to every musical ever written,” she said, adding that she thought she “had this f*cking thing locked up.”

Manheim’s son, Milo Manheim, is 25 years old and works as an actor. He was conceived through a sperm donation from Manheim’s gay friend, actor and model Jeffrey Brezovar. According to the actress, her son is heterosexual and the only straight member of his musical theater company.

The actress recounted her reaction upon learning that Harden’s son was gay, stating she felt jealous and considered Harden fortunate. Harden, who has three children, publicly stated in 2023 that all of her children identify as “queer,” with her eldest being non-binary, her middle child gay, and her youngest fluid in their identity.
