The Washington Times reported that FBI Director Christopher Wray will resign before Trump takes office because he does not wish to be fired.
Trump, who initially hired Wray, but grew unsatisfied after years of him weaponizing the Bureau, such as raiding Mar-a-Lago., nominated Kash Patel as a new replacement.
Wray is one of President Joe Biden’s closest allies, and Democrats and media supporters believe he should be pardoned preemptively. Reports indicate that White House attorneys are studying pardons. This would seem to imply an admission of guilt.
The Times reported Wray’s possible departure.
After Mr. Wray leaves, Paul Abbate, the Deputy Director will take over as acting director. He will also appoint a new acting deputy director. Originally, Mr. Abbate planned to stay until June or May to help with the transition of a new FBI Director.

Kash Patel is Mr. Trump’s choice to lead the FBI. He will meet Republican senators in Capitol Hill, this week. Mr. Patel was chosen by Mr. Trump, who had previously served as the Defense Secretary’s Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor to the National Security Council.
Mr. Wray was aware that his days at the FBI were numbered.
“He will be gone during the inauguration.” A source told The Times that the event would take place before or during the inauguration.
The FBI hasn’t denied Wray’s intention to step aside, but it has claimed that the bureau hasn’t weaponized justice.
“The FBI has repeatedly demonstrated our commitment to responding to Congressional oversight and being transparent with the American people. Director Wray and Deputy Director Abbate have taken strong actions toward achieving accountability…” it said in a statement to the outlet.
