Police reported that at least 11 people had been injured by an explosion in a Louisville, Kentucky manufacturing facility.
According to Louisville Metro Emergency Services, a “hazardous material incident” occurred Tuesday afternoon near a Givaudan facility.
Seven patients were admitted to the University of Louisville Hospital, two of whom were in critical condition. A hospital official confirmed that burns and blast injuries were among the injuries.
Officials said that the cause of the explosion which took place around 3 pm local time is not known at this point.
Officials said that all of the injured were employees at Givaudan Sense Colour. This is a natural food color plant.
Officials said that one person trapped in the blast was rescued and several others evacuated.
The incident has not been fatal.
Drone footage shows extensive damage at the facility.

Officials have evacuated residents within two blocks of this facility located at 1901 Payne St.
Officials said that a shelter-in-place order was also given to those living within a one-mile radius of this facility. However, the order has been lifted.
The agency reported that agents from the Louisville division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives responded and assisted with the “critical event”.
Officials said that air monitoring is currently clear.
Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said he was “praying for everyone’s safety as local officials worked to secure the area.”
According to its website, Givaudan Sense Colour produces colors that are used in foods and other applications.
