Reports indicate that famed singer-songwriter and pianist Billy Joel has announced the cancellation of his upcoming concerts. This decision comes in the wake of a diagnosis of normal pressure hydrocephalus, a brain disorder.
Joel, a 76-year-old artist noted for songs such as “Piano Man” and “Uptown Girl,” is currently undergoing physical therapy. He has been advised by medical professionals to abstain from performing during his recovery period, according to a statement posted on social media. “I’m sincerely sorry to disappoint our fans, and thank you for understanding,” Joel expressed.

Joel’s condition, which tends to be more common in people over the age of 65, was aggravated by recent concert performances, leading to issues with hearing, vision, and balance. Normal pressure hydrocephalus occurs when fluid accumulates inside the skull, exerting pressure on the brain. This disorder’s symptoms are strikingly similar to those of dementia, and in certain cases, can be reversible, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
Joel’s tour was originally scheduled to commence in February. However, it was postponed to July due to an undisclosed medical condition. The tour included stops in the United States, Canada, and England. Moreover, Joel concluded his record-breaking monthly Madison Square Garden residency, started in 2014, just last year.
The music world watches as Joel navigates this challenging time and wishes him a speedy recovery.
