Only days after Donald Trump won the 2024 presidential election, the Biden-Harris administration gave Iran $10 billion in sanctions relief. The sanctions relief was granted despite Iran’s continued attacks on Israel and support for terrorist groups.
The Washington Free Beacon published this:
On November 8, Secretary of State Antony Blinken declared that it would be “in the best interest of the United States” to lift the economic sanctions that prevented Iraq from paying Iran upwards of 10 billion dollars in electricity import payments.

The first Trump administration also approved this waiver, which caused some tension in Congress. The waiver was designed to limit Iranian cash access. It was difficult for Iran to spend its cash.
Republican critics argue that money can be used for anything. Tehran could easily use its money to fund regional terror groups such as Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthi rebels in Yemen.
The United Nations reported that Iran was able to provide an “unprecedented level of support” for Houthi Rebels after the Biden administration waived sanctions against Iran totaling six billion dollars.
Houthi rebels attacked commercial ships in the Red Sea and launched ballistic rockets against Israeli population centers. Biden removed Iranian-backed rebels from his list of terrorists when he became president in 2021.
