The fallout from the Biden administration’s repeated misdeeds hasn’t stopped yet.

Republicans from the House Judiciary Committee sent a memo to FBI Director Kash Patel on Friday, alleging that the Justice Department under Attorney General Merrick Garland and the FBI specifically during the Biden years had worked with financial institutions to gather information about Americans’ private financial transactions.

Part of the memo states:

Dear Director Patel,

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of former Director Christopher Wray, deputized the financial institutions as agents of federal law enforcement to monitor Americans who were engaged in constitutionally protected activities. The Committee on the Judiciary, during the 118th Congres, conducted oversight on this abuse of authority, issuing subpoenas, conducting transcribed interviews, holding a public hearing, and publishing two reports.

The Committee was informed by a whistleblower that, after the events of January 6th, 2021, Bank of America provided to the FBI, without legal process, a list of names of people who used BoA credit or debit cards in the Washington, D.C. region around this time.2 Additional FBI officials confirmed the allegations. The Committee and Select Subcommittee for the Weaponization of the Federal Government then requested documents regarding the receipt of funds from BoA and other financial institutions.

Under Christopher Wray’s leadership, the FBI spied upon American financial transactions and requested cooperation from American financial institutions to do so. Why financial institutions such as Bank of America provided this information is unknown.

There’s more:

An intelligence product developed by the FBI and Department of Homeland Security alerted financial institutions about criminal and domestic violence extremes.

It appears that under Christopher Wray and Merrick Garland as Attorney General, the FBI, Department of Justice, and other agencies conspired to weaponize financial monitoring for political purposes.

Think about that for a moment. A search for keywords like “MAGA” and “TRUMP” is one thing, but if they can surveil transactions for that, they can surveil for other things, like, say, firearms purchases. There are a host of constitutional problems with this, and hopefully, the House Judiciary will get to the bottom of it.

Will there be any arrests made or prosecutions brought? This is yet to be determined. Past arrests and prosecutions have been, well, let’s say, disappointing.
