Australian Senator Pauline Hanson and her chief of staff traveled to Florida aboard mining magnate Gina Rinehart’s private aircraft in late October, staying at the billionaire’s Palm Beach mansion near President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort.

Flight tracking data confirms that Hanson and chief of staff James Ashby accompanied Rinehart on her Gulfstream 700 aircraft on October 27. The jet departed Brisbane for Perth before continuing through Osaka to Palm Beach, arriving in the United States on October 29.

The travel arrangement came to light through publicly available flight tracking information. Following inquiries about the trip, Hanson’s office submitted an amendment to the Register of Senators’ Interests to properly declare the sponsored travel.

According to the declaration, Hanson received return flights between Brisbane and Florida from Hancock Prospecting, Rinehart’s mining company, with the return leg occurring on November 11. The senator also declared receiving hospitality from Rinehart during the visit. One Nation confirmed that this hospitality consisted of accommodation at Rinehart’s Palm Beach mansion, valued at approximately sixty-six million dollars.

The senator and her chief of staff returned to Australia on commercial flights rather than the private aircraft.

One Nation indicated that it submitted the required disclosure form on December 16, thirty-five days after the return flight. The party stated that it received subsequent guidance from the registrar regarding proper documentation procedures.

The relationship between Hanson and Rinehart has drawn attention in Australian political circles. Rinehart, one of Australia’s wealthiest individuals through her iron ore mining operations, has maintained connections with various political figures across the spectrum. The mining magnate’s Palm Beach property places her in proximity to Mar-a-Lago, the Florida resort owned by President Trump that serves as a gathering place for conservative political figures and business leaders.

The disclosure requirements for Australian senators mandate that gifts, sponsored travel, and hospitality be reported within specific timeframes to maintain transparency in parliamentary dealings. These rules exist to ensure the public can assess potential conflicts of interest or undue influence in legislative matters.

The October timing of the visit coincided with the final weeks before the American presidential election, though no official purpose for the trip has been disclosed. Palm Beach has become an increasingly important location for international political and business figures seeking to establish or maintain relationships with American conservative leadership.

This incident underscores the ongoing scrutiny of relationships between elected officials and wealthy benefactors, particularly when such arrangements involve international travel and luxury accommodations. The proper documentation of such arrangements remains a fundamental expectation of public service in democratic systems.

The matter now rests with Australian parliamentary authorities to determine whether all disclosure requirements have been adequately fulfilled.
