A routine traffic stop in Tampa has resulted in the arrest of a Canadian national found in possession of twelve fraudulent driver’s licenses, all bearing her photograph but with different names and dates of birth.
Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister released body camera footage from the July 29 incident, which began when deputies stopped a vehicle for non-functioning taillights and tag lights. What followed was a series of inconsistent statements that ultimately led investigators to uncover what they describe as a significant identification fraud operation.
The driver, identified as Bryce Swanson, 28, initially told deputies her name was Brianna Valenzuela. According to authorities, she first claimed to possess a valid driver’s license but said she did not have it with her at the time of the stop.
The body camera footage shows the deputy questioning Swanson about her residence and identification. She stated she was visiting Florida from New York and was driving a rental vehicle to see friends in the area. However, when pressed for identification, her account began to unravel.
“Your story’s not making a lot of sense to me, right?” the deputy can be heard saying in the footage. “You say you live in New York, but you don’t have any ID in New York.”
Swanson then changed her statement, telling deputies she had never possessed a valid driver’s license. This contradiction prompted deputies to conduct a search of the vehicle, which yielded the discovery of twelve driver’s licenses, each featuring Swanson’s photograph but displaying different personal information.
“All these are fake,” one deputy stated in the video before placing Swanson under arrest.
According to Sheriff Chronister, Swanson is a Canadian national who has overstayed her visa. The implications of possessing multiple fraudulent identification documents extend beyond simple traffic violations and raise questions about potential identity theft and fraud on a broader scale.
The suspect was transported to Orient Road Jail and charged with driving without a valid driver’s license and providing false information to law enforcement officers. Additional charges related to the fraudulent identification cards are likely pending as investigators continue to examine the scope of the alleged fraud.
