Indianapolis Councilor's Home Attacked with Gunfire Over Data Center Vote

An Indianapolis city councilor and his young son awoke to gunfire early Monday morning in what authorities are investigating as a politically motivated attack connected to a contentious data center proposal.

Ron Gibson, a third-term member of the Indianapolis City-County Council, reported that an assailant fired thirteen rounds at his front door shortly after midnight. The gunman left behind a clear message: a note placed in a sealed plastic bag on the doorstep reading “NO DATA CENTERS.”

“My 8-year-old son and I were not physically harmed, but we were awakened by the sound of gunfire,” Gibson said in a statement released Monday. “Like any parent, I immediately ran to him and reassured him that he was safe.”

The councilor emphasized the gravity of the attack, noting it extended beyond political intimidation. “This was not just an attack on my home, but endangered my child and disrupted the safety of our entire neighborhood,” he said. “I understand that public service can bring strong opinions and disagreement, but violence is never the answer, especially when it puts families at risk.”

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene around 9 a.m. Monday after Gibson reported the incident.
