In a tragic incident in Southern California, a mother has been taken into custody following the death of her 2-year-old son during a bathing incident, as reported by local police.

On Monday night, law enforcement officers responded to a distress call about an unresponsive 2-year-old at a residence in Placentia, California. According to reliable sources, the child was discovered in a bathroom, as stated in a press release by the Placentia Police Department.

Emergency responders immediately initiated life-saving procedures, and the toddler was rushed to a nearby hospital. Despite their best efforts, the child was pronounced dead upon arrival, the police reported.

The mother, identified as Melissa Lynn Beisel, aged 40, was also taken to the hospital due to self-inflicted injuries, according to police records. The evidence suggests that Beisel was bathing her son in a plastic storage bin within a walk-in shower. Authorities allege she left the bathroom briefly to retrieve soap, leaving the child alone for approximately two minutes, according to the ongoing investigation.

Upon her return, Beisel found the toddler face down in the bin, unresponsive, as stated by the police. She attempted to perform CPR on the child, but when her efforts proved unsuccessful, she harmed herself with a sharp object, as reported by the police.

The mother remained in the bathroom with the boy for an estimated six hours before a family member discovered them and dialed 911. Following her hospital discharge, Beisel was arrested on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter and child abuse resulting in severe bodily harm, as per the police report.

As we understand it today, Beisel has not yet been brought before a court, and the toddler’s official cause of death has not been disclosed, as the autopsy report is still pending, according to the police statement. The incident remains under investigation.

Reports indicate that the toddler’s father and other children were at home at the time of the incident. These children are presently in their father’s custody.
