Two court security officers were stabbed while performing their duties at the Manhattan criminal courthouse’s metal detectors yesterday morning, according to a spokesperson for the state courts.

As reports indicate, one officer received injuries to the face, and the other was slashed in the neck. Both officers were promptly transported to a nearby hospital, where they were reported to be in stable condition, according to sources within law enforcement.

The court officers did not stand alone in this incident. Immediately after the attack, several of their comrades hastened to intervene, promptly subduing and disarming the attacker near a bank of magnetometers and taking him into custody, state courts spokesperson Al Baker stated.

The attack, which was captured on surveillance video, appeared to be targeted, Baker said. An investigation into this unsettling event is currently underway, he added.

This raises important questions about the safety measures in place at our courts and the risks faced by those tasked with maintaining order.
